Though it is not the best part of having twins, being a part of my local Mothers of Multiples club is definitely a perk. Our club, NWAMOMC, is a nonprofit organization that supports parents of twins and triplets in our area and holds a consignment sale twice a year. Our sale is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, but it is also a great chance for all of our members to purge our homes and closets AND get money in return. I love getting paid for things I didn’t even want anymore! For years I basically traded my girls wardrobe by selling one and buying the next set at the same great prices. It was awesome.
Even if consigning isn’t your thing, I whole-heartedly suggest finding your motivation for getting rid of the clutter in your house! Sometimes it is helpful to have an exterior purpose to inspire us to let go of unused items in our homes and it feels good to imagine someone else finding use for the stuff. When you find your ‘thing’, embrace it and make it a tradition. In addition to consignment sales, you could:
– Hold an annual garage sale.
– Gather up toys in good condition and give before Christmas.
– ‘Adopt’ a family or two that have kids the right ages to use the hand-me-down clothing.
– Setup a donate box in your garage that you take to the thrift shop when it fills. I choose to only deal with thrift stores that recycle things they don’t use. I especially check what they do with clothes that won’t sell to make sure they have a plan for that, like recycle it to rag dealers.
And if you are local, come shop at our sale this weekend!
