Each season has its perks, and I like to enjoy them all. My favorite part of Fall is change in general: school routines settle, temperatures drop, and leaves change colors. One of my seven-year olds gave a multiple choice test at dinner the other night about what are the possible color of fall leaves. (She is the same child who excitedly tells me about tests given at school.)
My girls helped me pull out the fall decor over a month ago when they started to notice retail stores were crazy with Halloween and Fall stuff. My decor mostly focuses on Fall instead of Halloween, just because I’m a scaredy-cat and get easily grossed out. One of my girls had me close my eyes, then she put a pretend spider in my hand and had me open my eyes. I screamed on the top of my lungs and jumped 10 feet in the air. I’ve gone ahead and taught what arachnophobia means. (Of course, I taught them that as a follow-up to my favorite quiz-er giving me a true or false test “if spiders are considered insects”.)
Here are a few of our Fall touches. Please forgive the coloring of the photos. I didn’t want to delay posting this, but it was very gloomy outside when I was taking pictures. Sunlight streaming through the windows would have been nice, but I’m improvising with imperfection these days.
This is my favorite corner in my living room. I added a squash to my blue table.
I change out the decor above my TV for each season. The pumpkins are up throughout the fall. Most of the year I have pears there. (Wanna see the pears? See this picture at the end of this post.)
These pumpkins in the middle are the big size of the same pumpkins in the entertainment center. I didn’t change out the entire mantle for fall, just threw in some pumpkins and a squash. My kids love the light-up string of pumpkin lights.
I don’t really like the look of the chair here, but since I pretty much live in that recliner these days (notice my laptop/office setup on the seat?), I moved it closer into the sectional couch so I am closer to my kids and husband when we’re hanging out. I’ll move the recliner out from in front of the mantel after I’m recovered post-baby.
This is our little entry way cabinet with a few Fall accents. We keep our kids DVDs hidden inside! Awesome, right? (See more about that here.)
See my cute little witches in that photo? I love them.
So, this owl isn’t technically fall decor, but I wanted an excuse to sneak him into this post. I love my blue owl!!
I hope you enjoyed a little tour of my fall decor. For us, it is just the right amount to make this season feel special. Less is sometimes more, right?
Drop by sometime and have some hot cocoa!
